What STEVKA does with your data

Last changed: 11 October 2026 · applies to stevka.org and the STEVKA apps

In short

Your location

STEVKA asks for your location only when a feature needs it: the Sky over you, tonight's passes and eclipses, the weather and clouds over your place, the hills on your horizon, "what lives near you". You can refuse; those features then ask you to pick a place or simply stay off.

Camera, motion sensors and photographs

Live data the app asks for

Much of STEVKA is live. To show it, the app requests public data from the organisations that publish it, among them NASA, NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, EUMETSAT, the E.U. Copernicus Marine Service, MET Norway, CelesTrak, GBIF, Wikipedia and Wikidata, the Open Tree of Life, UniProt and the AlphaFold database, the Paleobiology Database and ALeRCE. Such a request carries what every web request carries: your internet address and your browser's description. Nothing that identifies you personally is added by STEVKA.

This website

The server that hosts stevka.org keeps ordinary access logs (internet address, time, the file asked for, the browser's description) to keep the site running and safe. They are not used to follow individual visitors and are not shared.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders (a station pass, an eclipse), they are scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent to a server to deliver them.

Children

STEVKA is made for learning and collects no personal data from anyone. One section of the human body view is marked 18+ and is off unless it is switched on in Settings.
